Lipedema: What is it?

Lipedema/lipoedema is a fat disorder. It was first named as a disease by the Mayo Clinic by Dr. Edgar Hines and Dr Edgar Allen in 1940. Lipedema, known as lipoedema in Europe, is a chronic disorder of the adipose tissue generally affecting the legs, which causes the legs, and sometimes the arms, to accumulate fatty tissue.

This unequal distribution of fatty tissues can cause great pain and discomfort for people suffering with this disorder. It is greatly misunderstood and much is still unknown about Lipedema.

Who is Likely to get it?
