The Meaning of St Patty’s Day
Saint Patrick’s Day is a cultural and religious holiday celebrated internationally on March 17th. It commemorates Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. It was made an official feast day in the early 17th century.
.
The day is generally characterized by the attendance of church services, wearing of green attire, and the lifting of Lenten restrictions on eating and drinking alcohol. And that is the part most people partake in!
.
In America, we usually celebrate by partying, go figure. Isn’t that what we do for just about everything we celebrate? But many people cook all day, Corn Beef and Cabbage the most popular, and then we go out and drink green beer.
