  • Boxing Day
    The day after Christmas Boxing Day started with the tradition of employers handing out boxes of Christmas gifts or money to employees, especially to servants and other household employees who were required to work on Christmas. Others give a box to the poor.
  • Kwanzaa -Kwanzaa is an African-Americans celebration of life from 26 December to 1 January. Dr. Maulana Karenga introduced the festival in 1966 to the United States as a ritual to welcome the first harvests to the home.  On December 26th in 1966, the first Kwanzaa is celebrated by Maulana Karenga, the chair of Black Studies at California State University, Long Beach.  Learn more here,
  • National Candy Cane Day
    The first candy canes made were actually just white sticks. It was said that in 1670, a choirmaster at the Cologne Cathedral in Germany bent these straight candy sticks into canes to appear as shepherd’s hooks. These new shaped canny canes were given out to children who attended the ceremonies. This became a popular tradition which eventually spread throughout Europe and the US.
  • National Thank You Note Day
    No matter what holiday traditions you celebrate, it’s likely that sometime during this month you received gifts and cards from family and friends. Take some time today to let them know you appreciate it with a thank you note.
  • National Whiner’s Day
    Rev. Kevin Zaborney created National Whiners Day in 1986 in hopes of encouraging people to be thankful for what they have instead of being unhappy “whining” about what they do not have.
