  • Johnny Appleseed Day
    On September 26th we celebrate Johnny Appleseed, (his real name John Chapman) who travelled across America (mainly from Massachusetts to Iowa) planting, teaching others to plants and coming to the aid of ailing orchards throughout his life. He was a kind man who taught others how to plant apple and pear trees.  He was born on September 26, 1774, in Leominster, Massachusetts. He was known to travel barefoot and always wearing a wide brim hat. He left orchards across the country but Warren County, Pennsylvania has claim to Johnny Appleseed’s first tree nursery.
  • Lumberjack Day
    Somewhere in the mid-2000s Marianne Ways and Colleen AF Venable decided it was time to honor lumberjacks. . Venable said that the original idea for the day was conceived as an excuse for her to go out and eat pancakes and waffles with friends. It has caught on and now on September 26th lumberjacks are celebrated everywhere for their hard work.
