Back to the Future
We all remember Back to the Future with Michael J. Fox. Who hasn’t seen it 1, 2, 3 or maybe 20 times? The movie about a teenage boy named Marty McFly takes you to a small-town in a 50s setting. where scientist friend named Doc Brown is experimenting with time travel. As thye both travel through time in a DeLorean, Marty gets to see young versions of his parents and Doc Martin and some version of the future where he and Doc would cease to exist.
This movie is about a group of young friends who discover an old pirate map in their attic. And adventure ensues when they follow it into an underground cavern in search of lost treasure but come up against plenty of dangerous obstacles along the way. The Goonies was directed by Richard Donner, and the screenplay was written by Chris Columbus from a story by executive producer Steven Spielberg. Warner Bros. released The Goonies movie on June 7, 1985, and it grossed $61.5 million worldwide and is now considered a cult film.

The Breakfast Club
The Breakfast Club was a drama about five high school students from different walks of life. All of them had to attend detention class together. This movie was bound to rise to fame as every person who has ever attended high school has gone through the torture of trying to fit in with the “cool kids.” It also was bound for success with the popular casting of “The Brat Pack” which included Judd Nelson as the scary rebel, Molly Ringwald as the popular cheer leading princess, Ally Sheedy is the strange outcast, Anthony Michael Hall as the overly smart but nerdy geek, Emilio Estevez as the popular good looking jock. As they are stuck together for the Saturday they all share their own stories and realize there is more to themselves then their perceived images. Universal Pictures released the film in Los Angeles on February 7, 1985. It received critical acclaim and earned $51.5 million on a $1 million budget.
Another great cast for an 80’s movie starring Kelly LeBrock and Anthony Michael Hall. This movie is about two young computer geek teenage boys who want to create the “perfect woman.”
St Elmo’s Fire
OMG who didn’t love this movie? Seriously, most of us were in love with one or two of the actors/actresses in this movie. With this “brat pack” there was noway this movie could fail!
The movie is about A group of recent college graduates trying to get out in real life and become successful on their own and the problems they each endure alone the way. Life isn’t quite what they expected it to be.
You have Rob Lowes cast as a young father wish a drinking problem who is overwhelmed by is husbandly duties and who’s dream is to be a musician. You have Demi Moore who is the wild crazy party girl. You have Mare Winningham the virgin, waiting for the perfect man to come along. While Andrew McCarthy plays a sulking writer who is secretly in love with Jules (Demi Moore.) Emilios Estevez plays a waiter who wants to become a lawyer. And last but not least Ally Sheedy who who plays the innocent girlfriend of Judd Nelson who is an aspiring and somewhat corrupt politician.
The Color Purple
An epic movie was written and produced by Stephen Spielberg. It is a drama that spans over forty years in the life of Celie (played by Whoopi Goldberg), an African-American woman living in the South who survives incredible abuse and bigotry. After Celie’s abusive dad weds her off to the equally debasing “Mister” Albert Johnson (Danny Glover), things go from bad to worse, leaving Celie to find companionship anywhere she can. She perseveres, holding on to her dream of one day being reunited with her sister in Africa. This movie is based on the novel by Alice Walker. Oprah Winfrey also made her acting debut in this movie.
This movie is about a high school teen boy named Scott Howard (played by Michael J. Fox) learns from his dad, Harold (played by James Hampton), that being a werewolf runs in the family. Showing off his newfound strength and agility, Scott quickly becomes the hero of his school’s basketball team while winning over longtime crush Pamela Wells (played by Lorie Griffin). But as Scott gets more and more popular, he starts to worry that he is being celebrated as a novelty rather than for who he is.
National Lampoon’s European Vacation
Clark, played by Chevy Chase, wins a European vacation on a game show and takes the family on yet another vacation. His wife, Ellen, played by, Beverly D’Angelo is excited, but daughter Audrey, played by Dana Hill doesn’t want to leave her boyfriend behind. In the meantime teenage son Rusty played by Jason Lively, fantasizes about meeting his dream girl. In true Griswald fashion, once they arrive in London, everything goes wrong.
Pee Wee’s Big Adventure
Pee-wee Herman (Paul Reubens), is an eccentric child-like man who loves his red bicycle and will not sell it to his envious neighbor, Francis (Mark Holton). But one day as Pee-wee visits a friend, the bike is stolen. Pee-wee sets off on a trip, where he meets many interesting people along the way.
Out of Africa
Karen Blixen (Meryl Streep) plans on just being a dairy farmer for her whole life. until she travels to Africa to join her husband, Bror (Klaus Maria Brandauer), who instead spends their money on a coffee plantation. Sadly Karen discovers Bror is being unfaithful, and she starts to develop feelings for hunter Denys (Robert Redford), but realizes he prefers a simplistic lifestyle compared to her upper class background. The two continue on until a series of events force Karen to choose between her love and personal growth.
Rusty, played by Cher, is a devoted mom to Rocky Dennis (Eric Stoltz) a teenager who suffers from a facial deformity called “lionitis” and has now outlived his life expectancy. This story goes through a mother’s battle to fight for her son to prevent him from being picked on by other school kids. Rocky himself is brilliant but can he ever be accepted by the other kids?
Desperately Seeking Susan
A New Jersey housewife Roberta Glass (played by Rosanna Arquette) likes to read personal ads. She becomes obsessed with a mysterious woman from New York City named Susan (played by Madonna). When one of Susan’s ads proposes a rendezvous with her suitor (Robert Joy) at Battery Park, Roberta sneaks along; But when something happens on her journey that ends in permanent amnesia she wakes wearing a new jacket, and notices she’s getting unwanted attention from some unsavory characters.
Agnes of God
Dr. Martha Livingston played by Jane Fonda, is a court-appointed psychiatrist sent to evaluate Sister Agnes, played by Meg Tilly. Agnes is a young nun whose infant has been found strangled. With Agnes claims she is a virgin and says she has no memory of giving birth. Livingston must distinguish between the lies and the nun’s perception-altering faith.
